The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a vibrant research institution in the field of basic biological and medical research, with a focus on understanding the functions of the brain’s circuits. Our institute has approx. 300 employees in three research departments and four research groups, as well as several service units.

For amplifying our team, we are looking for a at the earliest possible date Electronics Technician (m/f/d), initially limited to two years with the possibility of extension.

Your responsibilities:

The Electronics Department develops and maintain special electronic devices for  scientific experiments with low-voltage current. In the area of analog and digital technology electronic circuits are designed and assembled.

That includes:

  • Receiving of scientific requirements
  • Advising scientists on feasibility and considering compatibility with existing devices
  • Manual assembly and commissioning of conventional and SMD printed circuit boards
  • Conception, development and implementation of electronic circuits
  • Programming of microcontrollers, PLC and automation components
  • Mechanical processing of housings and components
  • Construction and wiring of complete electronic devices - prototypes & individual production
  • Repair and modification of existing equipment
  • Supporting advice for measurement technology in research projects
  • Development and manufacture of cable harnesses
  • Documentation of the projects

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed vocational training as an electronics technician (m/f/d) or several years of relevant, professional experience
  • Several years of experience in designing and implementing electronic circuits are essential
  • Very good knowledge of analog and digital technology, as well as low-current measurement technology, is essential
  • Above-average manual skills in the fields of electronics and mechanics (SMD manual
  • assembly, CAD and CNC milling machines, as well as hand tools) are essential
  • Thorough specialist knowledge and technical skills required in the manual production of sophisticated assemblies
  • Several years of experience in the development of prototypes and individual pieces are necessary
  • Good understanding of physical processes
  • Knowledge of EMC technology is desirable
  • Good written and spoken English and German
  • Excellent light-fingeredness and experience in handling soldering irons and similar devices
  • Very quick comprehension as well as committed, independent and structured work
  • Interest in working in a scientific environment
