The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research (MPI for Brain Research) in Frankfurt/Main is a vibrant research institution in the field of basic biological and medical research, with a focus on understanding the functions of the brain’s circuits. Our institute has approx. 250 employees in three research departments and four research groups, as well as several service units.
The Schuman Department investigates the inner workings of individual nerve cells (neurons) with various molecular tools, including advanced imaging techniques such as cryo electron tomography. We are looking for a research student assistant (m/f/d) to join our group for four months or longer.
Your responsibilities
You will support an ongoing project focused on the molecular ultrastructure of neurons involving neural-network-based techniques to automatically annotate the various organelles within cellular volumes. This will include:
- Setting up an automated segmentation workflow based on available protocols
- Iteratively improve, curate and clean the results
- Visualize the 3D segmented cellular volumes
Your profile
- Currently enrolled for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the fields of Mathematics, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Physics, Bio-Technology or Bio-Informatics
- Good communication skills and good knowledge of English
- Some experience using the command line interface
- Ability to work 20 hours per week
