How do communication systems evolve?

Throughout the course of evolution, numerous animals have evolved exquisite vocal communication systems and can provide insights into how brains and behavior evolved for communication. Our team from the Barker Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research focuses on understanding how vocal communication systems are used to shape social groups. We take a unique approach by studying one of the most social rodents in the Animal Kingdom, the naked mole-rat.
