Animal Facility

Animal Facility

The Institute’s animal facility houses and breeds the animals needed for research at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research. Its trained and experienced staff ensures that the animals’ needs are met and they are kept under optimal husbandry conditions, guaranteeing both animal welfare and reproducibility of experimental research. Our Animal Welfare Officer monitors compliance with all animal welfare legislation and provides advice and support to the scientists. Species housed in our animal facility are mice, rats, zebrafish, cuttlefish, bobtail squid, lizards and naked mole-rats. Most of the animals used in experiments are bred at the institute. They are housed and used according to current best practice standards and the 4R-Principles of the MPG.
