Our Team

Our Team

Experienced and trained animal caretakers, veterinary assistants and biologists along with our veterinarians work every day to ensure that the animals are housed and cared for in accordance with animal welfare standards. They are supported by our caretaker trainees (“Azubis”) and scullery staff. The housing systems for the "exotic" laboratory animals are planned in advance with and by our team, taking into account the needs of the respective species. In addition, the team assists and advises in the planning and conduct of animal experiments, as well as in laboratory animal science training and education.

Qualification in Handling Laboratory Animals

Comprehensive training is not only required by law for all personnel working with laboratory animals, but is also a priority for the Institute. Anyone working with animals at the Institute participates in qualifying courses and continued training. They also receive intensive and individual support from experienced staff to gain practical knowledge. This includes teaching the correct handling of animals and necessary experimental techniques, as well as comprehensive background knowledge on the species and animal experiments.

Education and Training

The Animal House successfully trains animal caretakers (specialisation research and clinics). This is a 3-year dual vocational training program. If you are interested in a trainee position contact us at hr@brain.mpg.de.

The Max Planck Institute for Brain Research is recognized by the Tierärztekammer Hessen for the veterinary specialisation in laboratory animal science. Further information can be found in the training regulations (Fachtierarzt für Versuchstierkunde – Tierärztekammer Hessen).
